A step forward towards healthcare modernization

Recently, Alcoi City Council has taken a significant decision for the future of public health in the region, approved in the last plenary session, which opens the door to the expansion of the Hospital Verge dels Lliris. This initiative seeks to modify the General Urban Planning Plan to increase the buildability of the plot that houses the health center, going from 1 m²t/m²s to 1.6 m²t/m²s.

A project with a vision for the future

Mayor Toni Francés has highlighted the importance of this expansion not only for the North Zone neighborhood, but for the entire region. The Generalitat Valenciana, within the framework of its 2022 health plan, has committed a budget of 82 million euros for the modernization of the Hospital Mare de Déu dels Lliris, with the aim of increasing its area by 40%, reaching almost 47,567 m².

The need for renewed infrastructure

The Hospital’s Master Plan not only contemplates physical expansion, but seeks to adapt the equipment to the future healthcare needs of the population, which currently has around 136,000 inhabitants. This implies an effective response to the health demands of the regions of L’Alcoià and El Comtat.

Innovations in health services

Among the improvements planned, the reform of the existing facilities is contemplated, as well as the construction of three new independent buildings. These actions aim not only to expand the functional areas, but also to introduce new services that improve the health care provided.

A rich history in service

Inaugurated on July 5, 1972, the Mare de Déu dels Lliris Hospital has been a fundamental pillar in public healthcare for more than fifty years. From a modest beginning of 300 workers and 194 beds, it now has a capacity exceeding 300 beds and a considerably larger staff.

Challenges and opportunities

Despite the various remodelings and expansions carried out over the years, the hospital still has several shortcomings. The current expansion project represents a unique opportunity for the establishment of an infrastructure that is not only more accessible and sustainable, but also lives up to the expectations of contemporary healthcare services.

Looking to the future

With the approval of this procedure, Alcoi is positioning itself to face the health challenges of tomorrow, ensuring that the Hospital Verge dels Lliris is not only an institution of the past, but an example of modernization and adaptation to the needs of the community. The transformation that is starting promises a healthier future for all the citizens of the region.
