A journey to Amposta’s political history
Lluís Garcia Muñoz, a well -known name in the world of drunken gastronomy, had a political career that marked his life. Councilor in the City Council of Amposta from 1987 to 1991 and a Member of the Diputación de Tarragona, Muñoz combined his passion for cooking with a commitment to his community.
Transformations to the Fair: An Accepted Challenge
During his time as director of Fira Amposta, Muñoz faced the reality of a predominantly agricultural fair. The machinery and the livestock dominated the event, and he witnessed the need to expand the offer to include commercial sectors. He recalls how, in his first year, a second pavilion had to be rented to house the influx of visitors, despite the controversy that this generated among the exhibitors.
Innovations and new ideas
His vision led to the introduction of significant news, such as the creation of the first Children’s Show, which coincided with the Easter holidays. Muñoz got companies in the furniture sector to join the fair, an important step that contributed to its diversification.
Personal and political relationships
His relationship with Mayor Josep Maria Simó was essential in his political and professional career. As President of Atlético Club Ampostí, he set up ties with the City Council, which facilitated his election as director of the fair. His political career began with a proposal looking for a director not affiliated with any party, and this marked the beginning of a fruitful collaboration.
A reflection on the future of Fira Amposta
After decades, Muñoz believes that Fira Amposta has failed to evolve to the rhythm of modern times. The fairs, who were formerly a commercial meeting point, have lost their essence. The lack of a proper pavilion has limited its ability to adapt to the new realities of the market, where digital technologies have played a central role.
Rethinking the fair model
According to Muñoz, the solution is to rethink the current infrastructure and create a multifunctional space that can house a variety of activities, not just fairs. The integration of tourism and new technologies should be the main focus of future editions.
Remembering unforgettable moments
Despite the challenges, Muñoz keeps a very positive memory of his passage through the fair, emphasizing the importance of the human team that accompanied him. His vision for the future includes the aspiration to create more sectoral fairs and take advantage of the space throughout the year, in order to enrich the cultural and commercial life of Amposta.
A legacy that lasts
Over time, Muñoz’s ideas still resonate today, leaving a mark on the way the fairs and their interactions can be conceived with the community. His experience reminds us that change and innovation are essential to keeping the interest and relevance of an event like Fira Amposta alive.
