Magdalena Vives’s criticism
The councilor and spokesperson for El Pi-Proposal for the Islands to the Board of Trustees of the Fundació Teatre Principal de Palma, Magdalena Vives, has expressed her concern for the lack of transparency, consensus and trust in the Board of Trustees on the part of the team of Government in the process of selecting the new director of the Main Theatre. According to Vives, the Culture team did not take the Board of Trustees into account and all the information came through the press. This lack of transparency demonstrates a lack of trust in the Board of Trustees on the part of the Government team (https://www.softcatala.org/resum-de-textos-en-catala/).
Martorell’s assessment
Despite the criticism, Vives has recognized that Martorell, the newly elected director, is a well-trained and qualified person for the position. With more than 30 years of experience, Martorell has demonstrated his ability in the field of performing arts.
The lack of consensus and participation of the Board of Trustees
Vives highlighted the lack of consensus and participation of the Board of Trustees in the entire process of selecting the new director. According to her, Vice President Roca has not informed or agreed with the Board of Trustees on the basis of the competition, and most of the jury to assess the candidatures has been the Councillor’s team, not the Board of Trustees. This lack of participation by the Board of Trustees has generated dissatisfaction in the sector (https://www.softcatala.org/resum-de-textos-en-catala/).
The position of El Pi
El Pi has always been in favor of the director of the Main Theater being chosen through a competition. However, Vives denounces the lack of consensus on the part of the Ministry and the non-participation of the Board of Trustees in the entire selection process. However, Vives congratulated the new director on his appointment and wished him luck in this new stage.
