Reflections in times of disillusionment
It is difficult to approach the current context without being overcome by deep sadness and inevitable indignation. When a people’s ideals are in danger, being rational seems an almost impossible feat. The recent actions of a party that once considered itself a bastion of the national struggle have put the faith of many to the test.
ERC and the change of direction
The election of a leader clearly linked to interests contrary to the struggle for self-determination has been shocking. The group has made decisions that, apparently, prioritise immediate benefits over a long-term ideal. The situation seems to have turned 180 degrees, moving ERC away from its independence-seeking essence towards an alignment with political forces closer to the Spanish centre.
The difficult elections
The current narrative suggests that promises are just that: empty words rather than tangible actions. The lack of firm commitments on critical issues such as amnesty or recognition of fundamental rights turns agreements into mere illusions that quickly fade away.
An uncertain future for independence
The recent vote reveals a clear and debilitating message: Catalonia’s dignity is for sale. The rise of the PSC, a party whose history is associated with policies of repression, raises disturbing questions about the direction that ERC has taken. There is a sense of betrayal of the cause, even an abandonment of the struggle for self-determination.
The union that dissolves
The deterioration of alliances within the pro-independence space is evident. The marginalization of key figures such as Vice President Puigneró indicates a fracture that goes beyond political disagreements; it is a crisis of trust and shared vision. ERC’s apparent comfort with the PSOE could be interpreted as a capitulation to state pressure.
In the face of adversity: a call to fight
Amidst this desolation, voices are emerging that continue to defend the independence cause. The frustration that many feel can be the fuel for a new strategy. By leaving aside old collaborations and focusing on rebuilding the social and political fabric around independence, the option of regrouping and redirecting the struggle is offered.
Hope persists
The president’s statement about the need to “use our claws” resonates at this juncture. It is a reminder that, although the paths seem dark, perseverance and unity can lead to the vindication of the rights that many do not want to give up. The fight is not over; It has just taken a new direction.
