A new horizon for police training
The creation of a new training space for the Mossos d’Esquadra marks a significant stage in modernizing the Catalan police force. This project, which will be located on an extensive farm of 60 hectares in the Anoia region, is based on a model similar to the Basque Berrozi, recognized for being a training center for elite units.
Strategic location and landscape adaptation
The property, which will house several infrastructures, is located around the old farmhouse of Cal Jaume, located in the municipality of Rubió. This space, owned by the Generalitat de Catalunya, has been ceded to the General Directorate of the Police and is expected to be used not only for training, but also for the rehabilitation of the rural landscape.
Construction in phases for a sustainable future
The project will be implemented in several stages. First, the security of the perimeter with a fence will be approved and the farmhouse, which is the only remaining structure of the old estate, will be restored. The commitment is to build only 5% of the total area, thus respecting the environment.
Innovative equipment and infrastructures
Among the resources planned for the new training center stands out a ‘kill house’ designed for assault simulations, as well as an obstacle course and a 100 meter shooting range, which currently represents a critical need. Until now, precision shooting practices required travel to military installations, complicating logistics.
Community impact and local collaboration
Rubió City Council has informed residents that the establishment of this training camp will involve improvements in local infrastructure, including the creation of a video surveillance network. This approach not only benefits the police, but also strengthens the safety of the people.
Continuous cooperation between authorities
The local authorities and the leaders of the Mossos d’Esquadra have held talks to ensure that the development of this project is congruent with the needs of the community and the police force, establishing a link between public administration and security.
Maintenance of operations in real environments
Despite the new facilities, the Mossos d’Esquadra will continue to train in real scenarios to provide readiness for incidents of high complexity. The combination of training in simulated spaces and in authentic situations seeks to increase the body’s efficiency and reaction capacity.
The future of security in Catalonia
With this initiative, the General Directorate of the Police promotes a long-term plan for the modernization and technicalization of the force to address emerging security challenges in Catalonia, including new aerial resources and special units prepared for various threats.
