The Organization of Consumers and Users (OCU) does not limit itself to analyzing supermarket products, but has also dedicated itself to finding the most reliable car brands of the moment. With a firm commitment to citizens, they have carried out an exhaustive study that has included the opinion of 29,873 motorists spread over 9 European countries, allowing them to compare the data of 276 different models.
The 3 Most Reliable Car Brands
To assess the reliability of the vehicles, the OCU has taken into account several aspects, such as the number of breakdowns and their severity, as well as the age of the cars and the kilometers driven. After the study, the organization has concluded that the most reliable brand remains Lexus, closely followed by Suzuki and Subaru. In addition, European brands such as Cupra and Smart have managed to enter the top 10.
Reliability Ranking by Car Brand
According to the OCU, the reliability ranking by car brand puts Lexus at the top with a reliability index of 98, followed by Suzuki and Subaru with an index of 93 each. Other brands such as Toyota, Cupra, Kia, Smart, Honda and Mitsubishi also stand out with indexes around 89 to 91.
New Cars Less Soon
In relation to engine type, the OCU has determined that petrol hybrid cars are the ones with the best reliability. In this sense, 17 models equal or exceed the score of 95 out of 100 in reliability.
The most reliable cars today are gasoline hybrids such as the Fiat Panda 1000 (2012) and the Suzuki Ignis (2017), as well as the electric vehicle Tesla Model Y (2021), the Ford Kuga PHEV 2500 (2019) as a plug-in hybrid , and petrol cars like the Audi A1 (2018), Volkswagen T-Cross (2018) and Mazda CxX-5 (2017), along with the diesel Audi Q5 (2016).

In addition, the OCU has also assessed the reliability of second-hand cars that can still be purchased. In this regard, stand out models such as the Lexus NX (2014-2021) and the BMX i3 (2014-2023) as electric vehicles, the Mitsubishi Outlander (2013-2022) as a plug-in hybrid, the Suzuki S-Cross / SX4 ( 2013-2021) as a petrol car, and the BMW 2 Series (2013-2021) as a diesel.
