A Saturday full of commitment and innovation
November 24 witnessed a large gathering in Manresa, where almost 800 young people from Catalonia gathered for the 48th General Assembly of the Catalan Scouts and Guides (MEG). The event, with the motto ‘We are education, we are community’, highlighted the importance of Scouting as a driver of positive social change and its connection to transformative education.
Open Method: a new pedagogical path
One of the highlights of the assembly was the presentation of the book ‘Mètode Obert’, a work that represents years of dedication and collective effort. This publication seeks to reaffirm the values of the Scouting and Guiding movement, presenting a tool that aspires to improve the world through education.
A person-centered proposition
The presenters emphasized that this new pedagogical proposal starts from individuality to reach the community, highlighting the importance of childhood and youth being active and protagonists in their own growth process.
A future committed to the defense of rights
In order to stand firm in the face of today’s challenges, MEG has approved a new budget and program that emphasizes the defense of the rights of children and youth. Its mission is clear: to educate and mobilize the community to face the challenges presented.
New direction, new voices
The assembly was also the stage for the presentation of six new members of the MEG Executive Board, who will bring new ideas and perspectives to the organization. This renewal seeks to ensure a dynamic direction adapted to current times.
Solidarity and social commitment
The plenary recalled the massive mobilization of educational associations that took place last June, as well as other current issues such as the right to decent housing and the defense of the Catalan language. Attendees called on the authorities to protect the rights and models of community education.
A day with institutional presence
Among the attendees were prominent figures from the institutional world, such as Teresa Llorens, Secretary of Childhood, Adolescence and Youth, and Isabel Sánchez Pulido, Councilor of Manresa. Their presence reflects the importance of institutional support for educational associations and collaboration in building a better future.
Final thoughts
The day concluded with a sense of unity and determination among the participants, with a promise to continue working together for a more just and equitable world. The MEG Assembly was not just a formal event, but a celebration of the collective commitment to a future where education and community go hand in hand.
