A Refuge of Tranquility
Palau de Marivent, located in Palma de Mallorca, has long been a place of peace and tranquility for Queen Emeritus Sofia. This residence has represented a refuge for her, offering her the serenity she does not often find in Zarzuela. The latter is a place where she has had to deal with unpleasant situations and contempt from her husband, King Emeritus Juan Carlos I, as well as a strained relationship with Queen Letícia and the lack of respect she has received from her consort
A Space of Freedom
In Marivent, on the other hand, Queen Emeritus Sofia feels like a true queen. There you can do and undo as you wish, with the staff always at your disposal. In addition, he can enjoy one of his favorite passions: shopping. Sofia enjoys her freedom to spend as she pleases, acquiring sophisticated jewelry and dresses, although she also occasionally indulges in more inexpensive and flashy jewelry. Mallorca’s commercial establishments see their sales increase when the Queen Emeritus makes an appearance.
Shameful moments
Shopping is an activity that Sofia likes to do alone, accompanied only by her bodyguards. Accompanying her on these occasions can be problematic, as Queen Letícia demonstrated in a store in Mallorca. According to the book ‘Los silencios de Letizia’ by Jaime Peñafiel, on one occasion Letícia lost her patience and embarrassed her mother-in-law with her impatient behavior during some shopping in 2006. This attitude was repeated on other occasions, leaving everyone shocked and embarrassed by the ways of the then heir to the crown.
