A New Era of Solar Energy
The Port of Tarragona has marked a significant new step in its sustainability initiative with the recent installation of a photovoltaic plant at the Port Police facilities. This action is part of the Sustainability Plan-Agenda 2030, which seeks to position the port as a pioneer in the use of renewable energies.
Details of the Photovoltaic Installation
With a total capacity of 90 kW, the installation was carried out in two stages. The first phase consisted of adapting the building’s roof, where modules were placed that provide 50 kW. The second phase took place in the parking pergolas, with the addition of solar panels that generate 40 kW.
Benefits of Generated Energy
The energy produced by this new installation will be mainly used for the building’s own consumption. The surplus will be integrated into the low-voltage network of the ET 12.2 transformer station, located at the Reus Wharf. This initiative is part of the Smart Grid system, which optimizes the management of renewable energy in the port.
A Well-Funded Project
The implementation of this project has been entrusted to the company COMSA SERVICE, with a total budget of €144,175.59 (excluding VAT). The works, which began in September 2024, were completed within four months, and are expected to begin operating during the first quarter of 2025.
Promoting Sustainability at Moll de Costa
This new photovoltaic plant not only improves the energy efficiency of the Moll de Costa, but also contributes to achieving the energy transition objectives of the Sustainability Plan. This implies a clear commitment to renewable energies and a significant reduction in the carbon footprint.
A Model of Energy Self-Sufficiency
With this installation, the Port of Tarragona consolidates itself as a model to follow in terms of energy self-sufficiency and respect for the environment. Currently, the port already produces energy from photovoltaic panels in eight buildings, including key spaces such as the roof of the administrative building, the Border Inspection Post (PIF), and other emblematic facilities.
Looking to the Future
The Port of Tarragona’s initiative reflects a strong commitment to sustainability and clean energy, and paves the way for future investments in renewable technologies. With each step taken, the port not only reduces its energy dependence, but also establishes itself as an example to follow in the logistics and port sector.
