Alignment with the leader of the PP and differences with the PSOE
The candidate of the PP in the Catalan elections, Alejandro Fernández, has expressed his complete agreement with the leader of the PP, Alberto Núñez Feijóo, on the actions that must be taken in Catalonia. In an interview with Europa Press, he highlighted the PP’s capacity for internal disagreement, unlike the socialists, and stressed the importance of being able to express diverse opinions despite being candidates from the same party.
The position on Salvador Island
Fernández has expressed his aim to see the leaders of the pro-independence process in the opposition and has criticized Salvador Illa, candidate of the PSC, assuring that despite his ‘fashionable’ appearance, he does not stop lying. In addition, he has sneered at Illa’s attempts to reconcile with pro-independence, noting the forceful answers he receives from pro-independence leaders.
Opinion on Pedro Sánchez
Regarding the president of the central government, Pedro Sánchez, Fernández has criticized him, stating that he has adopted a path of ‘banana populism’ which, according to him, deteriorates democratic quality. He highlighted his own experience of receiving negative comments on social media and questioned Sánchez’s identification with democracy.
Political proposals
In relation to his political proposals, Fernández has defended the expansion of the Barcelona-el Prat airport and criticized the PSC for its position on trilingualism in schools. In addition, he has highlighted his intention to manage the surplus water of the Tarragona Water Consortium to guarantee its supply throughout Catalonia, as well as his desire to promote legislation for the rapid expulsion of ‘squatters’ and the reduction of the regional sections of the personal income tax.
