An act of generosity in difficult times
Recently, the Sed Lleida race, organized by the Maristes Montserrat College, has managed to raise a total of € 5,500 for helping the affected families of Algemesí. Although the weather conditions prevented the competition from being completed as planned, the event has allowed to show significant support for the Valencian Community that has suffered the consequences of a recent natural disaster.
Practical help for victims
The funds obtained from the registrations of about 800 people who had registered to participate in the race will be used to provide the families of Algemesí tools, appliances and other essential domestic articles. Although months have passed since the flood of October 29, many families still struggle to regain their usual routine. The aid will be coordinated through the Maristes Algemesí College and the local authorities, and will be delivered in the form of coupons that can be redeemed in establishments in the area.
An event with history and commitment
Opened in 2015, the SED race stands out as the only sports competition in Lleida, which allocates all the registrations for solidarity projects. This feature has facilitated the collaboration of numerous local companies that support the cause with donations and gifts.
Impact beyond borders
In recent editions, the SED NGO (Solidarity, Education and Development) has helped improve the life of communities in countries such as Haiti, Myanmar, Colombia, Centrafrican Republic, Paraguay and Tanzania. In addition, they have offered experiences of international volunteering, with the aim of connecting Catalans with diverse and enriching cultures.
A future full of hope
The Sed Lleida race is not alien to adversity; The 2020 edition had to be canceled due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and in 2021 it required an adaptation for the circumstances of the moment. It is ironic that an event dedicated to the victims of floods must be postponed by the rain, but this weekend’s situation has been benevolent and calm.
A celebration that goes beyond the race
The spring edition of 2026 will mark a special moment, with the celebration of the tenth edition of this event that transcends the mere competition. The SED race is, in fact, an experience that unites families, promotes sportsmanship and promotes a firm commitment to the construction of a better world.
