The trial for gratuitous and unjustified aggression

During the eviction of the Expropriated Bank of Gràcia, the journalist Jesús Rodríguez was the victim of a gratuitous assault and inappropriate use of force by a mob.

In this trial, a sergeant and another officer of the body failed to tell the truth, according to the complaint filed by the Irídia Center, which represents Rodríguez in this case.

Today, the journalist testifies against the two policemen, who are being investigated for false accusation and false witness in a new judicial process.

Sentences and consequences

The Supreme Court has confirmed that the attack was gratuitous and with an unjustified use of force, after previous judgments had confirmed this information.

In the previous trial, the police officer was sentenced to two years in prison and two years of disqualification, in addition to compensation of more than 7,000 euros. His sentence has been ratified and he will have to serve it.

This judicial process has given rise to a new case, as complaints have been filed for false accusation and complaint and false testimony against two other Mossos officers who testified in the case about the assault.

Lies and manipulation

During the court proceedings, two officers were untruthful in the trial for the injuries to Rodríguez, making false accusations and false justifications for their actions.

The Generalitat de Catalunya had asked for a sentence of four years in prison and compensation of 69,000 euros, but the sentence acquitted Isidre García, considering that it had been proven that he had not committed any aggression.

The officers’ testimony covered up and justified the unjustified use of force, according to the allegations. These events have given rise to a new complaint for false accusation and report and false testimony against the two policemen, showing the manipulation of the judicial process.

Setting a precedent and calling for the truth

For the first time, journalists Jesús Rodríguez and Isidre García have filed a lawsuit for false accusation and denunciation and false testimony against two Mossos d’Esquadra agents, while seeking to establish a precedent against false denunciations.

The complaint aims to educate the insecurity situation experienced by information professionals and be a precedent that can help in other cases, denouncing the lack of valid control and accountability mechanisms.

A campaign, #ProuMentidesPolicials, has been launched, which aims to highlight the lack of valid control mechanisms and accountability of police officers, showing that these cases are not isolated incidents.
