A Successful Pilot Test

During the past winter, the air route that has connected the airport of Andorra-La Seu d’Urgell with Palma has achieved remarkable success, with an average occupancy close to 70%. This figure has exceeded expectations, demonstrating that the initiative has been profitable without the need for financial support from the institution.

The Secretary of State for Energy Transition, Transport and Mobility, David Forné, has informed that the Andorran Government will not have to make any financial contribution to the operating company, AirNostrum, since the registered employment has demonstrated the viability of the flight without the need of the maximum planned contribution of 220,000 euros according to the contract.

According to Forné, the pilot test has been a success for employment, opening up new opportunities to connect Andorra with the outside and energize the airport. In addition, he has highlighted the additional benefits in the diversification of transport options and the synergies generated throughout the territory of the Pyrenees.

Important Data of the Results

During the pilot test, an average occupancy of 69.3% was reached, with a total of 2,594 passengers in 52 operations. The month of February stood out with an occupancy of 94%, demonstrating strong demand on this air route.

In view of the success, the Government of Andorra is considering the expansion of the air route beyond the pilot test, a decision that could have a positive impact on the connectivity and development of the country.
