The Generalitat Valenciana cancels the Women’s Legacy project
The Generalitat Valenciana has decided to withdraw its support for the Women’s Legacy co-educational project, an initiative that seeks to promote the inclusion of female role models in classrooms. The Department of Education has canceled the project that was being coordinated by teacher Ana López Navajas. This project consists of the creation of a data bank, teaching material and training courses for teachers with the aim of rescuing the contributions of women in areas such as Science, History and Culture.
The project had international recognition
Women’s Legacy is part of an alliance with nine partners from Spain, Italy, Lithuania and Scotland, through the Erasmus+ program. In addition, it has the support of the French Ministry of Equality and was in the process of expanding to other European countries. The resources collected since 2020 were going to be presented in Jordan, translated into Arabic, in a conference that would include the participation of representatives from universities from Qatar, Dubai, Egypt, Tunisia and Morocco.
Continuity of the project with the support of the Women’s Institute
Despite the cancellation by the Valencian Government, the project coordinator, Ana López Navajas, has highlighted that Women’s Legacy will continue this year with the support of the Women’s Institute, dependent on the Ministry of Equality. In addition, the possibility of maintaining collaboration in 2025 is being evaluated.
Reactions and criticisms to the decision
The cancellation of the project has generated various reactions and criticism. Former councilor Vicent Marzà and deputy Gerard Fullana, from Compromís, have questioned the cuts and have compared the financing of the project with the financing of projects related to bullfighting. On the other hand, the UGT public services federation of the Valencian Country has criticized the decision and has highlighted the importance of Women’s Legacy in the inclusion of women in history and culture in educational content.

The Generalitat Valenciana has withdrawn its support for the Women’s Legacy project, which sought to promote the inclusion of female role models in classrooms. Despite the cancellation, the project will continue with the support of the Women’s Institute. The decision has generated criticism and reactions from different actors.
