The Molletans Studies Center presents a new book on Joan Abelló

The Center d’Estudis Molletans (CEM) has presented the book ‘Any Abelló. Centenary of the birth of the Molletà painter and collector’, number 15 of the Vicenç Plantada Collection. This new volume is a commemoration of the centenary of the birth of Joan Abelló and marks the 25th anniversary of the Abelló Museum and the 15th anniversary of the death of Jordi Solé Tura.

A collection of papers on Joan Abelló

The book ‘Year of the Bee. Centenary of the birth of the Molletan painter and collector’ collects the papers of the XXIV Days of the Molletan Studies Center, which were held from March 14 to 26, 2023. These days were organized to commemorate the centenary of the birth of Joan Abelló The book includes 11 articles that address various aspects of Abelló’s life and work, such as his artistic legacy, his painting technique and the creation of the Abelló Museum.

Availability of the book

The book ‘Year of the Bee. Centenary of the birth of the Molletà painter and collector’ can be purchased at the Abelló Museum at the price of €12. It can also be downloaded for free from the Mollet Town Council website, in the section of the Vicenç Plantada collection.

Acknowledgment of collaborators

During the presentation of the book, Estela Mas Cagide, councilor of the CEM, thanked all the people who have contributed to the creation of this volume. He emphasized that the book will be a reference for students of the life and work of Joan Abelló and that it will help discover new secrets and treasures of this exceptional artist and collector.

Presentation act

The presentation of the book took place at the Abelló Museum and was attended by the daughters of the painter Abelló and the widow of Jordi Solé Tura. During the event, a dramatized gathering entitled ‘La casa número 90’ was presented, which refers to the house where Joan Abelló and Jordi Solé Tura were born. This performance captivated the attendees and provided a unique perspective on the concerns and trajectories of the two illustrious Molletans.
