Differences in water reserves in Tarragona
The water scene in the province of Tarragona presents a reality marked by inequality. While the Margalef reservoir is offered in an unusual show, overflowing with water, other reservoirs such as those in Siurana and Guiamets struggle to stay at a minimum.
Evolution of reserves and impact of rains
The rainfall this March has provided relief to water reserves, with some reservoirs showing levels that have not been seen in years. The Siurana reservoir, with a capacity of 12.2 hm3, has registered a significant increase, reaching 22.2% after a long period of drought that culminated in an alarming 0.6% in October above.
Guiamets reservoir: a significant increase
Similar to Siurana, Guiamets reserves have gone from 7.8% to 22.6% in just four weeks, a change that has not been seen since August 2022.
Margalef’s unusual situation
Margalef, a reservoir that often goes unnoticed, has captured his attention with his overflow. After a spectacular recovery that brought it from 2% to 90% thanks to the last rains, this reservoir not only provides water to neighboring municipalities, but also feeds the Montsant river, which now flows strongly.
Riudecanyes: a case of successful water
In Riudecanyes, reserves have reached 49%, an increase that is attributed not only to local rains, but also to the water derivation of the Siurana river. The crosswater figures have been significant, with peaks that have exceeded 700 liters per second.
Ulldecona: Beyond the rains
In Terres de l’Ebre, the Ulldecona reservoir has reached 84.1%. Although the recent rains have not provided a great increase, the volume of water is considerable, remembering that it had previously been completely empty until the sudden recovery of last October.
The Francolí River: a revitalized river
The recent rain has also led to a significant increase in the flow of the Francolí river. The water sources of the Espluga de Francolí have been filled with intensity, and in Montblanc the Cabal has reached extraordinary figures, exceeding 2.5 m3/s, a scene that is unusual in recent years.
A future of hope for the rivers of Tarragona
Despite the periods of drought, the last rains have provided a new hope for the rivers and reservoirs of Tarragona. The recovery of water reserves is a reminder of the importance of sustainable management and resilience in the face of climate change.
