During the period 1983-87, the Amposta City Council undertook actions to recast in bronze the statue known as La Viola, the work of Soriano-Montagut. After several conversations and with the support of the Provincial Council, a grant was obtained for the restoration of the statue. The statue was placed in the Amposta Municipal Park, as it had originally been placed by the author.

The statue La Viola was created by Soriano-Montagut in Salamanca in 1936. After winning the first National Sculpture Award in Madrid with this work, the artist decided to give it to the city of Amposta as a tribute to the first public schools and to his friend Miquel Granell. The statue was placed in the Municipal Park in front of the school building, a place that had special meaning for Soriano-Montagut.
Tribute to Miquel Granell
Miquel Granell, Soriano-Montagut’s close friend, was a key figure in his artistic career. Granell helped the sculptor enter the world of art in Madrid and interceded with the king so that Amposta could get the first public schools. The restoration of the statue
Over time, the La Viola statue suffered damage due to exposure to inclement weather. But thanks to the efforts of the drawing teacher at the Ramon Berenguer IV Institute, the statue was recovered and restored. After the restoration, the statue was placed at the entrance of the Institute, where it remained for some years.
