A woman is released after a month of captivity
The Mossos d’Esquadra have freed a 45-year-old woman who had been held and bound with straps in a warded flat for victims of sexist violence in Santa Coloma de Farners. The captor, another 34-year-old woman, had been taken in by the victim along with her four minor children more than a year ago. The arrest of the captor took place hours after the release.
The release thanks to the alert of a neighbor
A neighbor, who is a local police officer, alerted the authorities after hearing the victim’s cries for help. The Mossos d’Esquadra arrived at the flat with the Fire Brigade and the Medical Emergency System to free the woman. After breaking down the door, they found the victim lying on a mattress with his hands bound with bandages and his feet covered with a handkerchief. The woman was released and treated by EMS.
Arrest of the captor
The captor was later arrested when she went to Hospital Santa Caterina de Salt for a visit with her 4-month-old son. At this time, the police arrested her for various offences, including illegal detention, harassing behavior, injury and theft. It was also discovered that he had stolen the victim’s mobile phone. The Mossos d’Esquadra are investigating the reasons that led the captor to act in this way.
Care of the captor’s children
The General Directorate of Child Care and Adolescence (DGAIA) has taken over the four children of the abductor. The reasons that led the captor to hold the victim for a month and the exact circumstances of their relationship are unknown.
