The price of petrol and how to save

The cost of gasoline remains high compared to previous years. Although fuel has come down in price in recent times, there are still many drivers concerned about the impact on their economy. In this sense, the General Directorate of Traffic (DGT) offers a series of tips to save money on petrol and keep your vehicle in good condition.

Vehicle maintenance

One of the most important aspects of saving fuel is keeping your vehicle in good condition. It is essential to carry out regular maintenance at a trusted workshop. This is especially important in older vehicles. A well-maintained vehicle is more efficient and uses less fuel. It’s also crucial to keep your tires at the right pressure, as incorrect pressure can increase fuel consumption.

Efficient driving

Efficient driving can help save fuel. It is important to drive steadily and anticipate speed changes. Braking and accelerating sharply increases fuel consumption. It is better to accelerate gradually and take advantage of the vehicle’s inertia in situations such as reaching a red light. In addition, maintaining a constant speed on the road also helps to reduce fuel consumption.

Driving in long gears

Another effective way to save fuel is to drive in long gears. This allows the engine to be kept at low revs, thus reducing fuel consumption. In modern vehicles, engines are designed to run efficiently at low revs, so you don’t need to hit top revs in every gear. The DGT recommends shifting to 4th or 5th gear before reaching 50 km/h. In addition, if the vehicle does not have a Start/Stop system, it is advisable to turn it off during long stops to avoid unnecessary consumption.
