Valuing the historical and cultural heritage of Tortosa

The rich historical and cultural heritage of Tortosa represents a great opportunity for the economic and social development of our city. This wealth, which we have always highlighted, is a strategic bet to turn Tortosa into a cultural and tourist reference. The actions we are carrying out are diverse and aim to enhance this unique heritage.

Fortifications and castles: a green circuit

One of the lines of action is the recovery of the six kilometers of walls and castles, which are unique in Catalonia and the Peninsula. We are promoting a green circuit that will connect all the fortifications from Orleans to the wall of Remolins, passing through the portal of Tarragona, Bonet and Les Avançades. This circuit will include a cycle path, parking for tourists, signage on the walls and improved lighting and vegetation. This will make the fortifications a great opportunity for the city.

Recovery of the Suda Castle and other actions

Another important action is the recovery of the underground galleries of Castell de la Suda, as well as the rehabilitation of General Ortega’s Poterna. These actions, with a budget of more than four million euros, will be financed by European funds. We are also working on the comprehensive rehabilitation of the Bonet fort, a fortification in danger of ruin for centuries.

Recovery of the Balneari del Porcar and other projects

Other actions planned include the recovery of the Balneari del Porcar, which will serve to enhance the Jewish quarter, and the project to recover the so-called synagogue. In addition, we are building housing for young people in the Castell district, with the aim of revitalizing the historic city.

Culture and events in Tortosa

In Tortosa, culture plays a fundamental role in the development of the city. The Toca’m festival, which offers piano music in the streets and squares, is an example of how culture enriches the lives of citizens and generates economic opportunities. In addition, this year we will be the first Catalan city to host the Culture and Rural Forum, an event that will bring together experts from the world of culture to debate the role of culture in rural areas.

conclusion

The rich historical and cultural heritage of Tortosa is an opportunity for the economic and social development of the city. The performances strengthen this heritage and emphasize its uniqueness. With a strategic view and a commitment to culture, Tortosa is building a promising future based on its history and the opportunities it offers.

Jordi Jordan Farnós is the mayor of Tortosa.
