A tragic day in Santa Susanna
On Sunday afternoon, a brave firefighter from the Generalitat died while facing a fire in a hotel on the Paseo Marítimo de Santa Susanna, in the Maresme region. During the efforts to control the fire in the underground plant of the establishment, the firefighter was trapped.
Fast responses to the emergency
The alarm was activated at 7:29 p.m., which led to the immediate mobilization of eight fire units. Upon arrival, both the local police and the hotel staff confirmed that the 250 people present in the building had successfully evacuate.
Actions at the place of the incident
The operations began immediately, focusing on identifying the origin of the fire, which was located in the spa underground plant. A team of three firefighters entered the building, but shortly after a serious emergency notice was activated, known as Red Code, which led to increase the resources there.
A tragic outcome
With the fire finally controlled, rescuers found the firefighter in a critical condition, suffering a cardiorespiratory arrest. Despite the resuscitation efforts of the Medical Emergency System, which included three land units and a medicalized helicopter, his life could not be saved.
Support for colleagues and tribute to a hero
In response to the tragedy, the GEM psychological support group and another SEM team were deployed to provide emotional assistance to the colleagues of the deceased firefighter, who were relieved of their duties in the midst of pain.
Reactions of local leaders
Salvador Illa, president of the Generalitat, together with the Minister of Interior and Public Security, Núria Parlon, have expressed their most sincere condolences. Illa highlighted the firefighter’s sacrifice and extended his support to the family and colleagues, while Parlon deeply lamented the loss and offered his support for those affected.

The Santa Susanna City Council has also expressed its regret in social networks, qualifying the event as ‘deeply unfortunate’ and expressing its solidarity with the professional and its environment.
