A Nova Era for Transport Sanitari in Catalunya
The Medical Emergency System (SEM) has recently announced the award of a vital tender for medical transport in Catalonia, which will be implemented between 2025 and 2030. With an impressive budget of 1,970 million euros, this initiative not only contemplates urgent transport, but also non-urgent transport, with the aim of improving efficiency and creating innovative synergies.
Key Details of the Bidding Process
The bidding process, which began at the end of 2023, was marked by a rigorous evaluation system, where quality represented 70% of the total assessment, while the economic aspect contributed 30%. The companies with the best classification provided the necessary documentation to demonstrate their economic capacity, as well as the documentation required according to the competition rules.
Awards by Areas
The awards have been made following a strict order, resulting in the distribution of the lots among several companies. In the Alt Pirineu, for example, the service has been awarded to Transport Sanitari de Catalunya (TSC), SLU.
Significant Improvements in Service
This competition not only implies an increase in the number of ambulances, with a total of 445 units for emergency services, but also a significant improvement in hourly coverage and an increase in healthcare personnel is expected, with nearly 380 emergency healthcare technicians added to the system.
Technological and Training Innovations
One of the most notable innovations is the introduction of an interactive map developed in collaboration with the Cartographic and Geological Institute of Catalonia. This dynamic tool allows for better planning and positioning of ambulances, improving response times in emergencies.
Future Perspectives
With the entry into force of this new system, Catalonia will not only increase its capacity to respond to emergency situations, but it is also committed to improving the working conditions of health professionals. Measures will be implemented to promote continuous training and gender equality within the sector.
Reactions and Next Steps
Now that the tender has been awarded, the companies have a period of 15 working days to file appeals before the Catalan Public Procurement Court. If there are no challenges, the award contract will be signed, thus marking a new chapter for medical transport in Catalonia.
