Start of an Ambitious Project

Sants Station, one of Barcelona’s main transport hubs, is on the verge of a total renovation with an initial investment of 153.3 million euros. This first phase of the works, which is part of a wider plan with a total budget of 410 million, is expected to start during the last months of the year.

A Space for the City

The aim of this transformation is not only to expand the station, but also to better integrate it into the urban fabric of Barcelona. Those responsible for the project seek to create a space that is accessible and that invites social interaction, facilitating a more dynamic and welcoming environment for travelers and citizens.

Award to Leading Constructors

The works have been awarded to a temporary union of companies, made up of Acciona and Copcisa, two construction companies recognized for their experience in large-scale projects.

Expansion of the Facilities

The first phase of the project will include the creation of a new high-speed boarding hall and direct access from Plaça dels Països Catalans. This will mean an increase of more than 30% in the total area of the station, thus improving service capacity and comfort for travelers.

Improved Mobility

The new configuration will also seek to encourage the use of bicycles and scooters, as well as facilitate access on foot with the creation of new pedestrian zones that will surround the terminal. This intermodal approach aims to make the station a key connection point between different modes of transport.

Rehabilitation of the Square

Another highlight of the project is the rehabilitation of the main square, which will recover its original design with the inclusion of green spaces and rest areas. This transformation will be carried out taking into account the contributions of residents and traders, ensuring that the needs of the community are respected.

Access Adaptation

The third project will focus on rearranging access for both pedestrians and vehicles. A new pedestrian path will be established that will connect Països Catalans and Joan Peiró squares, facilitating mobility and improving the experience of users arriving at the station.

Coordination with the City

The remodeling will also include a new space for the ‘kiss&train’ service, coordinated with the new road that is being defined by Barcelona City Council, thus improving accessibility and traffic efficiency in the area.

A Promising Future

As these works are developed, Sants Station will be transformed into a modern and accessible mobility hub, a reflection of the vitality of Barcelona. This project will not only improve the infrastructure, but will also contribute to the animation of the urban space, turning the station into a true heart of the city.
