The lack of transparency in the electoral process

Recently, a group of experts from the United Nations has issued a report that highlights the serious deficiencies in the electoral management of Venezuela, specifically after the votes of July 28. According to this panel, the electoral authorities have not implemented the minimum guarantees of transparency and integrity necessary to ensure the credibility of the results.

Criticism of the operations of the National Electoral Council

Experts have focused their criticism on the country’s National Electoral Council (CNE), noting that its results announcements on July 29 and August 2 were made without providing adequate details or tabulated results to candidates, a practice unprecedented in the context of modern democratic elections.

The deficit communication of the CNE

The report highlights that the statements issued by the CNE were merely oral, without any visual support or written documentation. In addition, the absence of results broken down by polling station has generated a climate of mistrust among the electorate, which has expressed doubts about the validity of the proclaimed results.

Reactions of the Venezuelan government

The conclusions of the UN experts have not been well received by Nicolás Maduro’s government, which has called the claims “irresponsible” and accused the international body of spreading lies. In a statement, the executive pointed out that the report represents a propaganda strategy by the opposition.

Parliament also reacts

Jorge Rodríguez, president of the Venezuelan Parliament and a member of Chavismo, rejected the panel’s findings, calling it a “group of garbage” and criticizing its decision to make public a report that was initially supposed to remain private.

The importance of electoral transparency

Elections are a fundamental pillar of any democracy, and their integrity is essential to guarantee citizen confidence in the political system. The UN’s observations underscore the urgent need to improve transparency and communication protocols to ensure that electoral processes in Venezuela are respected and considered legitimate.
