The decline in unemployment in Catalonia
During the month of May, unemployment in Catalonia has experienced a reduction of 6,248 people, which represents a decrease of 1.85% compared to the month of April. This represents a continuation of the downward trend, as unemployment also fell by 2.14% in the previous month. In total, the number of unemployed people in Catalonia stood at 330,782.
Comparison with other regions
Catalonia occupies the second position in terms of unemployment reduction in the month of May in Spain, surpassed only by Andalusia, where unemployment decreased by 15,585 people. Sectors with the greatest reduction in unemployment
In sectoral terms, services have been the sector with the greatest reduction in unemployment in Catalonia, with 4,816 fewer people. Next is industry, with 482 fewer unemployed. In the construction sector, there has been a decrease of 389 unemployed, while in the agricultural sector there have been 185 fewer unemployed. Regarding the group of people without previous employment, there has been a reduction of 376 people.
Distribution by gender and demarcations
Women represent 57.71% of the unemployed in Catalonia, with a total of 190,890 unemployed, while men represent 42.29%, with 139,892 unemployed. In terms of demarcations, Barcelona has experienced the mildest reduction, with only 1.57% less unemployment. Lleida leads the drop with 4.21%, followed by Tarragona with 2.32% and Girona with 2.29%.
Contracts in Catalonia
During the month of May, a total of 222,074 contracts were registered in Catalonia. Of these, 100,175 have been indefinite contracts and 121,899 temporary (https://www.softcatala.org/resum-de-textos-en-catala/). However, there is still a clear majority of temporary contracts, as they represent 54.9% of the total.
