The rector of Manacor confirms the collapse of the church roof
The rector of Manacor, Antoni Amorós, has confirmed on Wednesday night the unexpected collapse of the roof of the church of Son Negre, in the municipality of Manacor (https://www.softcatala.org/resum-de-textos-en -Catalan/). This incident has occurred after several repairs carried out in the parish four years ago.
Details of the collapse
According to the person in charge of the churches in the municipality, the fall of the church roof took place between Sunday, when there was precipitation accompanied by mud, and Wednesday, when the incidence was discovered (https://www .softcatala.org/resum-de-textos-en-catala/). Despite this, when accessing the interior of the temple, no remains of the mud were found.
Characteristics of the church of Son Negre
The church of Son Negre, which dates from the end of the 19th century, has five sections of vault supported by three arches. Unfortunately, two of these arches have fallen, causing the fall of three sections of the vault inside the church (https://www.softcatala.org/resum-de-textos-en-catala/). Although the church was being used on an occasional basis, a wedding was planned to be held in the next 15 days.
Forecasts and previous observations
Rector Amorós pointed out that, despite having observed a crack, it was not considered to be a serious problem. Four years ago, a major investment was made to replace the entire roof and shore up the adjacent premises, so the collapse was by no means expected. During the works, the vaults and the roof were checked, and no incidents were detected.
Next actions
As for the next steps to be taken, the rector has indicated that it is not yet known what will be done, since the arrival of the technicians to assess the situation is being awaited.
