A New Beginning for the Miracle Space

Today the start of the demolition work on the Miracle Platform has been launched, a project that is expected to extend for five months. This initiative seeks to eliminate the current structure to make way for a complete renewal of the area, thus improving the use of this emblematic space.

Safety and mobility measures

As usual in any work of this magnitude, various traffic restrictions have been implemented to ensure pedestrian safety and facilitate work. Last week, signs were installed that prohibit parking under the platform, as well as directions at different strategic points.

Traffic restrictions and alternative itineraries

Among the measures taken, it is reported that the section of the seafront that goes from the Fortins to the Bridge of Arms will be closed to traffic. This area will become an outlet for heavy vehicles, which will not be allowed to circulate normal vehicles.

Access to the port and regulations for heavy vehicles

Drivers who wish to access the Port will have to do so on Mestre Benaiges Street, as a new itinerary has been designed on the Via Augusta to prevent the entrance to the arms bridge. It is important to note that vehicles with a weight of more than 3.5 tons will not be able to circulate on Mestre Benaiges Street, which is residential.

Impact on pedestrians and cyclists

For security reasons, pedestrians will not be able to access the work area around the platform. An alternative itinerary has been established by Robert d’Aguiló Street in the direction of Mestre Benaiges.

Bike lanes and cyclists options

Cyclists will also be affected by their route, with the need to divert along Mestre Benaiges and Robert d’Aguiló Street to connect again with the Paseo Marítimo. Those who go to the port will have to use the Via Augusta to turn to Mestre Benaiges Street.

A project with a future vision

The demolition of the Miracle Platform is part of the plan ‘Tarragona – Greenbelt’26’, an ambitious initiative that seeks the renaturalization of urban spaces in the Green Ring of Tarragona. This project has an investment of 4.2 million euros, funded by the Recovery, Transformation and Resilience Plan of the European Union, with the support of the Biodiversity Foundation.

With this transformation, Tarragona will not only improve its infrastructure, but also promises to create a more sustainable environment and adapted to the needs of its citizens.
