Proposals for improvement for the district
Eixample breathing has called on Councilor Jordi Valls to implement four key measures to improve air quality and reduce traffic accidents in the district. This meeting, recently held, seeks a firm commitment and immediate actions to address these challenges.
Redesign of Calle del Comte d’Urgell
One of the prominent proposals is the permanent transformation of Carrer del Comte d’Urgell, taking advantage of the L8 works. Eixample Respira suggests that this road incorporates two exclusive bus lanes, one in each direction, to improve access to public transport and create safe spaces for both cyclists and pedestrians.
Measurement of air quality
The entity emphasized the need to install a new station to measure the pollution to the right of the Eixample. The L8 works have altered traffic and, therefore, the current data on air quality are not representative. This new station would be essential for accurate information on the environmental situation.
Actions to reduce accidents
Eixample breathing has also submitted a group of 35 allegations to the Local Road Safety Plan, which includes measures to reduce accidents on the most dangerous tracks such as Gran Via, Aragon and Diagonal. The proposals include the implantation of an urban toll to limit traffic and the prohibition of parking motorcycles on the sidewalks.
Pacification of the Sagrada Familia
The fourth proposal refers to the pacification of the streets adjacent to the Sagrada Familia, including Carrer de Mallorca. This action is considered urgent to recover public space for neighbors, reduce pollution and improve connection with the Eixample green axes.
Supply and Futures Wineries Commitment
In addition to the new demands, Eixample Respai has urged the councilor to respond to the proposals presented at last year’s meeting. These include a ban on bus lanes during the weekends and holidays, as well as the creation of vertical lanes on other key tracks such as Aribau, Muntaner and Entença.
