The need for a healthcare transformation
Recently, ERC representatives have expressed their concern about the critical situation of the healthcare system in Alt Penedès, warning about the imminent danger of healthcare collapse if immediate measures are not taken.
A future with more healthcare needs
Maria Sardà, one of the party’s most prominent voices, has pointed out that the foreseeable increase in the population over 65 will require more robust healthcare. ‘It is essential that the system adapts to both current and future needs,’ she added.
Deficits in primary care
Sardà also highlighted that several municipalities in the region do not have an adequate primary care service, leaving the Alt Penedès Regional Hospital with the responsibility of covering this gap. ‘It is crucial to rethink the role of the Hospital, as it cannot withstand the growth in demand without adequate support,’ he said.
Complaints about an emergency center
The Republicans have once again put pressure on the creation of a Primary Care Emergency Center (CUAP) in Vilafranca. Councilor Pere Sàbat recalled that this need has been on the table for a long time, with promises from the previous government of the Generalitat that now seem forgotten.
Inequalities with Garraf
Sàbat lamented the difference in healthcare between Alt Penedès and Garraf, stressing that this inequality must be addressed immediately to prevent the quality of care from continuing to deteriorate.
Call to action from local government
ERC members have urged the Vilafranca government to provide clear and effective responses to the health concerns of citizens. ‘It is time for them to assume responsibility and work on viable solutions,’ concluded Sàbat.
Long-term vision for public health
In addition, Sàbat emphasized the importance of going beyond immediate complaints and developing a strategic plan that ensures the proper functioning of the public health system in Alt Penedès in the coming years.
