Different Views on the Financing of Catalonia

During a pre-campaign debate, the various candidates for the presidency of the Generalitat have set out their visions on the reform of funding in Catalonia, presenting diverse and contrasting proposals.

A Look From the PSC

The candidate of the Socialist Party of Catalonia (PSC), Salvador Illa, has highlighted the importance of creating a tax consortium in the financing reform, an alternative that seeks to improve the management of the Generalitat’s resources.

The ERC approach

For his part, the Esquerra Republicana de Catalunya (ERC) candidate, Pere Aragonès, has defended the idea of a unique financing, negotiated bilaterally with the State, underlining the progress achieved through this negotiation process.

Criticisms of Junts+ and Commons Proposals

The formation Junts per Catalunya (Junts+) has criticized the disinvestment of the State in Catalonia and has opposed an increase in fiscal pressure, while the Commons Sumar have opted for a ‘country’ proposal in terms of financing, seeking a fair, ordinary and solidarity solution.

The Point of View of the Popular Party

The candidate of the Popular Party (PP), Alejandro Fernández, has expressed his readiness to reform the financing when the separatist process ends, emphasizing the need for an agreement that also includes other autonomous communities.

In summary, the different proposals and visions reflect the diversity of approaches and opinions on the future financing of Catalonia, showing the complexity of the political debate on this key issue for the country.
