The president of the Council of Mallorca rejects the placement of the rainbow flag
The spokesman for MÉS for Mallorca in the Council, Jaume Alzamora, has expressed his regret at the fact that the president of the institution has vetoed the placing of the rainbow flag on the occasion of the International Day against LGBTIphobia. This decision has generated controversy and disagreement among the members of the formation.
A request to make visible the struggle of the LGTBI+ collective
MÉS per Mallorca had submitted a request to hang the rainbow flag as a show of support and vindication of the LGTBI+ collective. The aim was to make visible the struggle of this group in society and contribute to the eradication of discrimination and stigmatization. This request was made after the intentional burning of another LGBTI flag at a high school in Muro.
The passivity of the PP and its opposition to social rights
The spokesman for MÉS, Jaume Alzamora, has criticized the Popular Party’s passivity in the face of certain speeches and has affirmed that this attitude is not surprising, since they have always opposed any progress in social rights. Alzamora emphasized that the PP has opposed the Divorce Law, the Abortion Law and Equal Marriage. According to the ecosovereignist spokesperson, this silence and inaction in the face of homophobia and racism makes them accomplices.

The spokesman emphasized that diversity is an inherent value in Mallorca and that the PP will not be able to hide the colors of diversity. In a symbolic gesture, the four councilors of MÉS have unfurled the LGBTI and Trans flags in the courtyard of the Council, thus showing their support for the collective and condemning the island president’s refusal to place the emblem on the main facade.
Fight for equality, tolerance and freedom
Alzamora has reaffirmed the commitment of MÉS for Mallorca to the fight for equality, tolerance and freedom. He emphasized that diversity is an inherent characteristic of Mallorca and that the PP cannot deny it. The spokesman criticized the drift of the PP and affirmed that this formation thinks and acts like the extreme right. He concluded by reaffirming that MÉS will continue to fight for equality and freedom, always defending the rights of discriminated groups.
