Presentation of the City of Basketball
The city of Vilafranca del Penedès has begun an exciting journey as the City of Catalan Basketball 2025, with an inaugural ceremony held at the Vinseum Auditorium. The event included the screening of a welcome video that captured the essence of the celebration and showed the official image of the event.
Diversified and Inclusive Activities
Throughout the year, Vilafranca will offer a varied program that includes social, sports and cultural activities focused on the world of basketball. This initiative is possible thanks to the collaboration between local clubs, such as the Casal Vilafranca Sports Section and the Xamba Sports Club, as well as the City Council.
Recently Launched Initiatives
Recently, the city successfully hosted the first edition of the Mini Open Day, which saw the participation of both male and female categories. In addition, Vilafranca hosted the first day of the 3×3 Catalan Championships, marking the beginning of a series of activities that will extend throughout the year.
The Basketball Ambassadors
An outstanding aspect of the inauguration was the presentation of the Ambassadors of the City of Catalan Basketball. This new role seeks to promote and give visibility to activities related to the event. Vilafranca will have a group of 12 figures, who will change monthly.
Who are the Ambassadors?
Among the selected ambassadors, we find prominent personalities such as Txell Freixas, journalist and author of ‘Aliades’, and Dani Ayora, Technical Director of SE Casal. Other figures include prominent players and coaches from local clubs, such as Edu Riu and Fina Cusiné, who will contribute their experience and passion to the world of basketball.
A Message of Enthusiasm and Responsibility
Mayor Francisco Romeo expressed his enthusiasm during the opening ceremony, highlighting the importance of assuming the status of capital of Catalan basketball. He stressed that this event will not only strengthen the sporting image of Vilafranca, but will also promote tourism and social cohesion through the inclusion of all neighborhoods and ages.
This project seeks to promote the values of effort and teamwork, which are essential to the city’s collective identity. In addition, the improvements to the sports facilities will leave a lasting legacy that will benefit future generations of athletes.
