An agreement in process
Vox has announced that it has been in negotiations with the PP to form part of the Segovia City Council government, and that on April 18 both parties signed an agreement. The presentation of this pact was scheduled for May 3, according to Europa Press.
The Vox councilor explained that the negotiations began on December 26, and that the agreement consists of 25 measures, many of which are aligned with the electoral program of Vox Segovia and others coincide with those of the PP.
Although the agreement had been successfully concluded, its announcement was postponed due to the Galician elections. Finally, it was signed on April 18 by José Mazarias and Esther Núñez, setting May 3 as the presentation date.
Reactions and denials
Vox spokesperson at City Hall, Esther Núñez, explained that the PP decided to postpone the agreement until after the European elections, and that they are waiting for a response from Vox.
The Popular Party issued a statement denying the existence of a government alliance at this time with any party, and reaffirming its intention to continue governing with the support it has.
It had been announced that the mayor of Segovia, José Mazarias, would be present at the presentation of the agreement, along with other municipal officials of the PP and the spokesperson for Vox, Esther Núñez. However, in the last call the presence of the Segovia City Council shield no longer appeared, only that of Vox, and the presence of more councilors than those of Vox was not mentioned either.
Content of the agreement
The agreement includes generic measures to promote commerce, industry, restaurants, tourism and the provision of quality public services, as well as audits in municipal spaces and a detailed analysis of the municipal housing company Evisego and the municipal tourism.
Esther Núñez would join as councilor for Commerce, Industry and Markets, dividing the current council, which also covers Public Works and Infrastructure Services.
Opposition reactions
The spokesperson for the Socialist Municipal Group, Clara Martín, has questioned the confusing announcements of recent days, and has asked the mayor to reflect on his decisions.
Clara Martín expressed her concern about the possible alliance between the PP and Vox, and hopes that it will not be for the personal benefit of the current government team.
The spokesperson for Segovia En Marcha, Guillermo San Juan, considers that the city of Segovia loses with this type of agreement, and criticizes the lack of focus on solving problems for the common good.
