A climatic panorama of contrasts

The State Meteorological Agency (AEMET) has issued its forecast for the coming weeks, and the expected climate panorama is marked by significant contrasts in temperatures and a general lack of rain in much of the Spanish territory.

Temperature variation

During the week of July 8-14, temperatures are expected to be markedly different than usual for this time of year. In the west and center of the Peninsula, as well as in the Canary Islands, a drop in temperatures is forecast, while in the east of the peninsula an increase is expected that will exceed normal values by mid-July.

Lack of rain

Regarding precipitation, the AEMET predicts a general lack of rain in most of the national territory. However, in the north-west of the Peninsula some precipitation is expected which could temporarily alleviate the drought in this region.

Forecast for the week of July 8 to 14

According to the AEMET, during this week the arrival of several less active fronts is expected which will mainly affect the northwestern third of the Peninsula. The rest of the country will enjoy clear skies and rising temperatures. Temperatures will experience a gradual increase between Monday and Thursday, reaching summer values. From Friday, a slight drop in temperatures is expected, although extreme values will still remain at certain points.

As for precipitation, it is expected that during this week there will be cloudy skies and some precipitation in Galicia and the western Cantabrian area. Showers are also expected in the Iberian system and the Pyrenees at the beginning of the week, with the possibility of an occasional storm. As the week progresses, the chance of showers in these areas will decrease, although they are not completely ruled out.

In the Canary Islands, intervals of clouds are expected in the north of the islands, with the possibility of some weak precipitation. In the rest of the archipelago, partly cloudy or clear skies will predominate, offering a more stable and pleasant climate for residents and tourists.

In the rest of the Peninsula and the Balearic Islands, partly cloudy or clear skies are expected to prevail, creating ideal conditions for outdoor activities and tourism.

Predominance of winds

As for the winds, westerly and northerly winds are expected to predominate, with the probability of heavy rain during the second half of the week in the Straits and the Empordà. In the Canary Islands, temperatures will rise from Tuesday to Friday, offering warm and stable weather.
