Every March 8, the world stops to remember the incessant struggle for gender equality. This day is not only an opportunity to claim rights, but also to celebrate women who have made a difference in various fields, such as art.
Safe glory: a pioneer veu in the monst of les arts
Gloria Segura Jordà, an artist from Alcoy, has devoted her life to making her way in a male-dominated sector. Despite an impressive resume full of exhibitions and collaborations, she admits that her career has been marked by additional obstacles. “The difficulty for women is real,” he says. “In addition to our profession, we must manage the family and domestic responsibilities that sometimes make it difficult for our advance.”
The ‘Sentinelles’ project: visible inspirational women
With the intention of making visibility to women who have left their mark in their respective fields, Gloria created the work ‘Sentinelles’. This exhibition, which can be found on the streets of Alcoy, highlights female figures that have been references. “The goal was to make these women visible and their contributions,” says Gloria. “There is still much left to do. We need examples that show that it is possible to move forward in any field.”
The importance of March 8
According to Gloria, the commemoration of March 8 is still essential. “There are still very obvious inequalities in our daily lives,” he says. “Women have been historically excluded from many fields, including art and the business world. Its absence in prominent positions is a reflection that we have not yet achieved the desired equality.”
A positive Cap al Futur look
Despite the current adversities and the feeling that some progress is being reversed, Gloria maintains an optimistic attitude. “I am very positive and I think equality will come,” he says. “Although the rhythm of the changes is slow, I hope that, with the right support, we can achieve our goals. It is a challenge that depends largely on the political decisions made.”
