An oral agreement ends the strike
The teachers of the Ginesta municipal preschool have decided to call off the indefinite strike that was scheduled to begin on Wednesday, April 12. This decision has been taken after an oral agreement between the workers and the Sant Feliu City Council. The meetings between the educators, the representatives of the USOC Teaching Union and the City Council have made it possible to address the demands of the workers and to explain the political intentions and objectives of the municipal government regarding this service. According to the City Council, this agreement has been reached in the hope of guaranteeing fair remuneration for female workers, in line with the working conditions of the municipality. Thus, the contract with the new tender conditions will enter into force on September 1, 2023, before the end of the current legislature.
They continue to fight to improve conditions
Despite this agreement, Ester Martínez, one of the Ginesta educators, considers that this is only the beginning of a path. Martínez has affirmed that they will continue to fight to achieve the conditions they demand to equate the management and services of the Ginesta nursery school with the other municipal centers. The main objective is the municipalization of the school, but, faced with the difficulties in making this possible, the workers are asking for an increase in investment to equalize wages, working conditions and facilities. Martínez has also expressed the wish that the next municipal government, which will take office in May, has the will to continue improving the conditions of the Ginesta school.
