An Unforgettable Evening

Last Saturday, the Plaça de l’Esglesia de Flix vibrated with the melodies of Xarim Aresté, an artist who has returned to his roots to present his new album, ‘Un idioma nou’ (RGB Suports, 2024). The square, full of excited people, hosted a performance that reflected not only his music, but also his deep connection to his homeland.

Roots and Music

Xarim, who has lived an impressive musical journey, has been able to integrate his experiences into his songs. His music is not only a reflection of his life, but also a tribute to the culture of the Ribera de l’Ebre, where local traditions fuse with modern influences. ‘My name is pronounced Llarim here,’ he said with a smile, highlighting the pride he feels in his identity.

Returns and Exchanges

After some time in Barcelona, Xarim has returned to Flix, a place he considers his home. ‘I have returned to Barna, which I had pirated from there for several years. And the truth is that I’m doing well’, he shared with sincerity. However, distance and transportation can be a challenge. ‘The train from Caspe can take forever until it reaches Barcelona’, he added with a hint of irony.

Reflections on Society

The singer expressed his concern about the perceived social stress on train travel, a reflection of the current collective tension. ‘I have experienced surreal situations traveling by train. I don’t know, we should have a look at it,’ he said. This sense of bewilderment translates into his music, which seeks to reconnect with the human essence.

Musical Creation

The new album, ‘A new language’, is born from a meticulous creative process. Xarim explains that his way of working is dynamic: ‘We recorded in four days, very quickly, but maintaining creative freedom’. This mindset, which avoids the limitations of a rigid score, allows the music to flow more naturally.

A Different Musical Journey

His recent work incorporates a rich variety of genres, including rock, blues, jazz and even elements of jota. ‘Creativity is a freeway that allows you to play with all the elements you want,’ he said, stressing the importance of exploring cultural traditions. The jota, a music that has been part of the life of the workers in the field, occupies a special place in their hearts.

Music as a Reflection of the Soul

Xarim considers music as a mirror of the soul, a vehicle to express emotions and connect with the present moment. ‘The soul knows only art. For her, there is no past or future, only the present’, she reflected, underlining her belief in the importance of living in the moment.

The Future of Creativity

Concerned that machines could replace human creativity, Xarim wonders about the future of music. ‘Every time a child is born it’s a change in the world. They are the guarantee we have that the imagination is saved’, he said, hinting at optimism in the midst of an uncertain landscape. His thoughts on fatherhood also emerged during the interview: ‘Yes, I think about it often. I think I would like it. Everyone ends up falling in love.’
