The Minister of the Presidency and Justice, Félix Bolaños, confirms the agreement

The Minister of the Presidency and Justice, Félix Bolaños, has indicated in an interview with RAC1 that there will be an agreement on the amnesty law between the PSOE and Junts. This agreement has been approved by the two political formations after two weeks of intense negotiations.

The current text already covers all those charged with the process

Minister Bolaños has remarked that the current text of the amnesty law already covers all those accused of the pro-independence process. In addition, he emphasized that concrete talks are being carried out to reach a definitive understanding.

The turn of the PP on Carles Puigdemont

The minister has accused Alberto Núñez Feijóo of having ‘inoculated hatred’ in relation to the pacts between Pedro Sánchez and independence. Bolaños has stated that the PP would also have granted the amnesty if it had not been for Vox’s ‘dependence’ at the arithmetic level.

Objective: to cover all the people linked to the independence process

The minister emphasized that the aim of the amnesty law is to cover all the people who were linked to the independence process. In addition, he stressed the importance of ending all criminal, civil and accounting proceedings related to this issue.

Advancement in negotiations

The minister has indicated that there have been advances in the negotiations, but he has noted the importance of maintaining discretion so as not to interfere in the process. He has stated that if there is an agreement, it will be made public at the appropriate time.

The inclusion of everyone involved in the process

Bolaños has made it clear that the amnesty law will only fulfill its objective if it includes all the people who were involved in the independence process. He emphasized the importance of the rule being ‘impeccable’ to overcome all the obstacles that may come in its way.

The crime of terrorism

The minister has remarked that the crime of terrorism cannot be applied to the Catalan process. He affirmed that the judges are in charge of classifying the facts as a specific crime and emphasized that there was no terrorism in Catalonia. He has made it clear that it is the responsibility of judges and courts to make this decision.

Reversal of individual processes

The minister has emphasized that there are higher authorities that can reverse individual processes in progress. However, he avoided commenting on specific cases and emphasized that the amnesty law already includes all cases related to the independence process.

Contacts with Carles Puigdemont

Bolaños has not denied that he has been able to speak with Carles Puigdemont, but he has indicated that Pedro Sánchez has not had any direct contact with the leader of the PSOE.
