The party executive approves his expulsion by majority

The Junts per Catalunya executive decided this Monday morning by a majority to expel Cristina Casol from the parliamentary group, according to Ara and it was able to contrast with several sources. The measure had eight votes against. Casol, who was number 2 in the candidacy of the councilors for Lleida and is close to Laura Borràs, would become a non-affiliated deputy, as she has declared that she does not want to resign from the record. She participated in the meeting, as she is part of the executive. With this agreement of the party’s governing body, the leadership of the parliamentary group will have to apply the expulsion of Casol as a parliamentarian still attached to Junts. The measure has highlighted the conflict between sectors of the party, in a climate of tension. The meeting started at 10 am and lasted more than two hours.

The deputy had reported harassment on the grounds of gender

The deputy had submitted a complaint to the Junts al Parlament group for gender-based harassment before the chamber’s Equality Office, a matter that was filed because no “proven facts” were found – although the report drawn up warned of an “ingrained masculinity” within the group—. After it closed, the majority of the parliamentary group set out to demand Casol’s resignation and, if not, expel her. In fact, more than twenty of the group’s parliamentarians (there are 32) sent a letter addressed to the secretary general Jordi Turull and the president and spokesperson of the group, Albert Batet and Mònica Sales, expressing this opinion.

For some leaders, this situation was “unsustainable”

For some leaders, this situation was “unsustainable”. Almost two weeks ago, at a meeting of Junts’ permanent staff, the majority of attendees indicated that the best solution was Casol’s resignation. The decision was postponed to a meeting of the parliamentary group last Tuesday, where a chronological exposition of this case was finally made and where Albert Batet announced that they were considering taking legal action for the “defamation and leaks” derived from the case of Cristina Casol, but also that of the vice president of the party, Aurora Madaula. Finally, it was agreed that this debate would be discussed at the training executive, as happened this Monday.
