Beginning of a Vital Initiative for Viare Security

From Thursday, April 3, police will activate a new control campaign that will be extended for eleven days, focusing on the detection of drivers under the influence of alcohol and drugs. This initiative, which is part of a larger plan designed by the Ministry of Justice and Interior, is the main objective of preventing traffic accidents.

A clear message: Prevention is key

The campaign seeks not only to identify offenders, but also to raise awareness of the risks involved in driving under the effects of substances. Authorities want citizens to understand that these behaviors can be devastating, both for those who drive and for other road users.

Legal limit and consequences

It is important to keep in mind that, according to a recent court ruling, a driver can be detained with a rate of alcohol equal to or greater than 0.87 grams per liter of blood. In the case of professionals, this limit is 0.57. However, authorities will also sanction those with rates of between 0.81 and 0.86, as well as those that exceed 0.51 and 0.56 respectively.

Administrative and criminal implications

The consequences of violating alcohol rules are severe. Drivers exceeding legal limits may face sanctions that include the suspension of driver’s license for a period of up to two months and fines that reach up to 400 euros. In the case of professional drivers, penalties can be much more serious, with fines ranging from 1,200 to 6,000 euros.

Drugs and driving: a sanctioned crime

Driving under drug effects is not only dangerous, but also has legal consequences. Those who refuse to undergo alcohol tests will face a year of one year prison and fines that can reach up to 3,000 euros.

We are all responsible

Police insist on the importance of individual and collective responsibility. Drivers of bicycles, scooters and personal mobility vehicles must also respect the regulations and be aware that, if they are surprised under the effects of alcohol or drugs, they can deal with similar sanctions.

With this campaign, the authorities seek not only to sanction, but also to educate and raise awareness of the real dangers involved in irresponsible driving. Road safety is a shared responsibility that requires collective effort to ensure safer roads for everyone.
