The delivery of the X Pere Tena Memorial of Pastoral Liturgica
Last Thursday, February 15, the presentation of the 10th Pere Tena Memorial for Liturgical Pastoral was celebrated in the great hall of the Conciliar Seminary of Barcelona. This recognition, awarded by the Liturgical Pastoral Center of Barcelona (CPL), was granted to Msgr. Aurelio García Macías for his exceptional career in the field of liturgy.
Trajectory of Mons. Aurelio García Macías
Msgr. Aurelio García Macías, born in Pollos (Valladolid) and ordained priest in 1992, obtained his degree and doctorate in liturgy at the Pontifical Liturgical Institute in Rome. In addition, he has held relevant positions as president of the Spanish Association of Liturgy Teachers and consultant to the Liturgy Secretariat of the Spanish Episcopal Conference. Currently, he works as undersecretary of the Congregation for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments, with episcopal rank.
Meaning of the Pere Tena Memorial
The Pere Tena Memorial was created to keep alive the memory of Bishop Pere Tena (1928-2013), founder of the CPL and pedagogue of the liturgy. This recognition aims to promote everything that helps to live the liturgy of the Church in today’s world and to remember the importance of liturgical pastoral care in the Christian life.
Tribute to Mgr. Have
During the event, Mn. Josep Maria Romaguera, president of the CPL, highlighted the coincidence that Msgr. Tena also served as undersecretary of the Dicastery for Divine Worship and the Discipline of the Sacraments between 1987 and 1993.
Laudatio of the honoree
Dr. Salvador Pié-Ninot, in the laudatio of the tribute, referred to two key concepts present in the theological-liturgical research of Mons. Aurelio: “Jesus Christ as apostle and pontiff” and “apostolic priesthood”.
Gratitude and memory to the missed Bishop Tena
Msgr. Aurelio warmly thanked the award and recalled the year 2001, when he was invited by Bishop Pere Tena to teach at the Superior Institute of Liturgy in Barcelona. He highlighted his experience during these years and praised the figure of Bishop Tena as an indisputable teacher in liturgical matters.
