The Christmas security device in Olot
The Christmas security device in the Old Town of Olot, made up of Mossos d’Esquadra and Local Police, has obtained positive results. According to the City Council, this device has contributed to reducing the feeling of insecurity in the city centre. However, some incidents have been reported in other neighborhoods.
Device results
During the Christmas period, a total of 860 identifications were made and more than 100 acts related to possible criminal acts were raised. These actions were carried out by the Municipal Police and the Mossos d’Esquadra in collaboration.
Evaluation of the mayor of Olot
The mayor of Olot, Pep Berga, has positively evaluated the security device during the municipal meeting. According to Berga, the device has created a climate of greater security in the Old Core. However, he has acknowledged that some incidents have moved to other areas of the city. Berga has stated that the device will continue to operate until the creation of the new municipal police unit.
The new municipal police unit
Olot City Council plans to activate a new unit against incivility, which will be made up of three new agents and a corporal. This unit will aim to combat incivility, illegal occupations and vandalism during the nights. The officers are still undergoing training and are expected to join the municipal police force soon.
