A man convicted of murder arrested for raping a woman and her daughter

A man who was convicted of murder and was on parole was arrested this past Sunday after allegedly raping a woman and her daughter in Nagpur (India). Bharat Goswami, 33, was convicted in 2014 of murder but had recently won parole.
The alleged sexual assault took place on January 25, when Goswami went to the home of the surviving woman, whom he already knew, and raped both her and her 14-year-old daughter. He allegedly threatened the minor that if she said anything about what had happened, he would kill her.
The woman lodged a complaint with the police, after which the accused was arrested. According to reports in Nagpur Today, cases of rape in India’s second capital, Maharashtra, have been on the rise in recent times.
In 2023, the city recorded the highest number of rape cases in a decade. According to this media, approximately 252 women were victims of the heinous crime in 2023, and 250 in 2022.
