The ACA tenders for technical assistance to study restoration alternatives

The Catalan Water Agency (ACA) has started the tendering process for technical assistance to carry out a study of alternatives for the morphological and ecological recovery of the Francolí river. The tender budget is almost 100,000 euros and the execution period is twelve months from the award and signing of the contract.

The study will focus on the sections of the river that pass through Montblanc and l’Espluga de Francolí, which were affected by the floods of October 2019 and which over time have been invaded, especially for agricultural activities, according to the ACA has reported. For this reason, the purpose is to make a diagnosis in these sections to reduce the impact of possible future floods and carry out actions to restore these sections.

The tasks that will be carried out in the study

The tasks that will be carried out in the study will consist of collecting all the information of the sections that are the subject of the study, doing the topographical survey for the hydraulic modelling, the geomorphological study (historical and current), the environmental survey of species of flora and fauna and the cartographic approach to the forest biomass that can be dragged to the upper part of the basin and its tributaries.

Based on this information, action alternatives will be considered to conserve and recover the fluvial space with measures to naturalize the riverbed, such as the possible purchase of land, geomorphological correction, improvement and restoration of habitats and compatibility with public use. Finally, with the intention of seeking social and territorial consensus, the process of public participation will be designed and initiated to present and discuss the proposed alternatives.
