Barcelona, leader in electric charging points

The city of Barcelona has achieved great success in deploying charging points for electric vehicles, consolidating its position as a leader in this field in Spain and one of the top five European cities in this field. The mayor, Jaume Collboni, has inaugurated point number one thousand, located in the underground car park of the Mercat de Sant Antoni, which is part of the public network managed by BSM. This network already has 1000 charging points in operation, and the installation of 2000 more points is planned from next year to cope with the increase in demand.

Investment and regulation

25 million euros have already been invested in this initiative, and an additional investment of 15 million euros is being negotiated for the next five years. The mayor has highlighted the importance of responsibility in approving budgets to ensure support for this initiative. In addition, there has been a call to open up regulation to allow other operators to also offer charging points in the future, with the aim of encouraging competition and improving accessibility to electric charging services.

Other initiatives

In addition to vehicle charging points, work is underway to create a network of battery swappers for electric motorcycles in BSM parking lots. This initiative aims to facilitate sustainable urban mobility, offering already charged batteries to electric motorcycle users. Pilot tests have already been carried out with different electric motorcycle operators at the BSM Cotxeres de Sarrià, Plaça Navas and Gràcia Motos car parks.
