A computer attack compromises personal data
Last Tuesday, April 2, a computer attack was detected on the information systems of Sant Feliu City Council. The attack managed to illicitly access some personal data. However, access has been limited and isolated without the attackers being able to have all the information of a single person, which makes it difficult to use this data.
Quick response and security measures
The first deputy mayor, Javier Molina, explains that access to the data was carried out in a “disconnected” way and that “sensitive information has not been interfered with”. According to the councilor, the attackers took advantage of the Easter holidays to enter and he points out that “in a matter of hours” the technical measures to solve it were reinstated.
Complaint and reinforcement of security
The council has reported this fact to the Mossos d’Esquadra to notify the competent authorities in matters of security and personal data of the incident. In addition, the City Council assures that it will soon hire a SOC (Security Operations Center), a program that will allow monitoring and managing the security of the information system. This internal team is responsible for the maintenance of cyber security technologies and constantly analyzes the data of possible threats to find ways to improve the overall security of the system.
Possible consequences and precautions
The possible consequences of this incursion could be: receiving communications by e-mails or messages in accordance with the data obtained illicitly or phishing campaigns. Javier Molina insists that the City Council “never requests bank details by phone or text messages”.
