Strong Winds in the Canary Islands: Pre-alert in Cinco Islas

The General Directorate of Emergencies of the Government of the Canary Islands has issued a pre-alert for very strong winds on five islands of the archipelago.

Based on the prediction of the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) and other sources, the Specific Emergency Plan of the Canary Islands due to Risks of Adverse Meteorological Phenomena (PEFMA) has been activated.

The affected islands are Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, peaks and eastern half of La Palma, high areas and peaks of El Hierro, La Gomera and Tenerife.

Forecast details:

Winds from the west and northwest are expected, moderate with strong intervals, especially at the summits. Gusts could exceed 70 km/h and occasionally reach 100 km/h in the Teide National Park.

Notices from Aemet:

This Friday, the islands of Tenerife (north), Lanzarote and Fuerteventura are under a yellow warning due to strong winds.
