A crime that shocked everyone
Almost a year ago, the Daniel Sancho case shook public opinion. The son of renowned Spanish actor Rodolfo Sancho was arrested and imprisoned for the murder and dismemberment of Edwin Arrieta, a Colombian surgeon who was also in Thailand. The news generated a great impact and made headlines in all the media, from the events sections to the gossip press. The question everyone asked themselves was: how could someone from a wealthy family like this actor’s have the idea of committing such a brutal murder against someone with whom he had a friendly relationship?
A murky judicial past
But the wait for the verdict of the trial that will put an end to this long and expectant investigation has not been Daniel Sancho’s only concern. It turns out that the young man already had a pending judicial matter since 2021 for a crime of injuries. He was accused of attacking a man in 2019 after jumping the waiting line to take a taxi. Faced with the victim’s recrimination, Sancho responded with a punch that broke his tooth. This incident marked the beginning of his legal problems, and although a court date was scheduled for last November 7, it had to be canceled due to Thailand’s tax conditions. Finally, the case has been resolved today, June 5.
The agreement and the consequences
In the agreement reached, the victim requested one year in prison, compensation of 600 euros for the injuries suffered and an additional sum of 1,500 euros for the consequences caused. In addition, the special disqualification of the right to passive suffrage was requested, which means that Sancho could not stand as a candidate in an election. However, this last point is unlikely to worry you right now. During the brief video call made to resolve the case, Daniel Sancho admitted his guilt and accepted the sentence imposed. The agreement included the payment of a fine of 450 euros and an additional compensation of 2,100 euros to the victim for the injuries and consequences suffered.
A surprising attitude
The change in attitude of Daniel Sancho is notable, who until now had shown a grotesque and superior attitude during the trial sessions, according to Edwin Arrieta’s relatives. However, on this occasion, the accused appeared crestfallen and acknowledged his responsibility in the incident. Although he continues to maintain his innocence in relation to the main case, the evidence presented against him is compelling. Now we just have to wait until August 29 to know the final verdict and solve the mystery surrounding this tragic event.
