An unsustainable situation
Having already exhausted all the available adjectives, we cannot attend impassive to an extermination planned and executed with all kinds of actions and performances, outside the most elementary norms of respect for human beings. Figures are given that exceed 30,000 victims, of which 80% are women and children. Who can look at pictures and read descriptions of the atrocities committed, without demanding the intervention of all the countries of the world?
The need for a forceful response
Figures, which also do not reflect reality because it is not known who has been left hanging by thousands of tons of debris, nor who has suffered the excesses of the settlers in the West Bank area. Within the framework of the great conflict, many others appear that are smaller, but equally unbearable. How can a military action last so long, hidden under justifications of self-defense.
The need for responsibility and peace
We were all concerned by the terrorist attack by Hamas against innocent people. It was logical and fair to have a forceful reaction to punish the guilty, but not to take this action against an immense civilian population, crowded and defenseless, in a strip where they have been living badly for an eternity. Those guilty of this outrageous action must be prosecuted and punished. Not because they have high government positions they can get away unscathed. And we know of internal reactions against this retaliation, but we must ask for more courage and more unity to stop the war and carry out a reparation that should go through the existence of two States, coexisting in peace.
The importance of the US and the international community
If a reaction must come from within Israel, another essential one must come from the hand of the US, the main ally and supporter of the war action with all kinds of weaponry. Actions of rejection are beginning to be seen inside the US, either by citizens of Muslim origin, or by the rejection produced by the images and the results of this action. But everything is too slow, too circumstantial when there are dozens or hundreds of victims every day.
The paper of the UN and the EU
From the UN, the Secretary General is playing an important role of criticism, and demanding responsibilities, while proclaiming the need for a ceasefire, in order to be able to feed the population and recover a minimum of health services. Also, Josep Borrell, as a representative of the EU, plays an essential role, but he must go as far as stopping a war, which is absolutely unequal.
The consequences of the war
This war breaks all plans and destroys all the sympathies and support obtained by Israel throughout contemporary history. It will take generations to regain peace and tranquility, because the hatred that is sown now will be reaped by future generations. No one forgets the atrocities they have seen, and even less when they have suffered them in their own flesh. The leaders of this fury do not realize the punishment they are promoting, even if it is many years away. Who will be able to live in peace, if he has been the protagonist of the greatest atrocities? How is it that many more opponents do not come out, and drive out some extremists who want to leave behind nothing but destruction and suffering. Mistakes always pay off. Now we are no longer talking about a mistake but about a planned and programmed campaign, of total destruction, without even thinking about tomorrow. Destruction for destruction, instead of proposing historical changes that could serve to make future coexistence viable. There are many culprits inside and outside, and we must hold them all accountable.
