He stated this after learning of the resolution issued this Thursday by the magistrate of the National Court, Manuel García Castellón, who is investigating the ‘Tsunami’ case.
Calvo defends legislative work and asks for respect for the Judiciary
The former Vice President of the Government and current PSOE parliamentarian, Carmen Calvo, has affirmed that the Judiciary must respect the legislative process and considers that it must not issue judgments on the amnesty until it is approved and becomes law. According to his judgement, the rhythms are not being respected.
Calvo made these statements when asked about the resolution published this Thursday by the judge of the National Court, Manuel García Castellón, who is investigating the cause of ‘Tsunami’ and who points out that the serious injuries suffered by two agents in the subsequent riots in the judgment of the ‘process’ are “incompatible with the right to life and physical integrity recognized in article 15 of the Constitution, and article 2 of the European Convention on Human Rights”.
The judge’s decision could make Puigdemont’s amnesty more difficult
The judge’s interpretation of the facts goes against the amendment agreed at the last minute between PSOE and Junts and could make it difficult to include former Catalan president Carles Puigdemont in the amnesty for the Tsunami case.
It is the circumstance that this specific article of the European Convention is one of those expressly excluded from the amnesty law after the last modification that the bill has undergone, although this violation of human rights must be “manifest” and “with direct intent”, according to the amendment incorporated last January 23.
Calvo demands “exquisiteness” from the Judiciary and “tranquility” from the citizens
“The Judiciary must also respect that we are in legislative work right now, in a parliamentary work that also requires the delicacy of not speaking out,” he said in Congress, at the entrance of the Equality Commission .
“Especially when you are part of another power until the text can be definitively approved, appear in the Official State Gazette and become law, which is when the courts of our country can apply it,” he then added.
Calvo considers that the rhythms are not respected and this is “not good” because it does not give citizens peace of mind, which in his opinion is what the country needs.
Calvo responds to García Page’s criticisms and asks for support from his party
On the other hand, regarding the criticism launched by the president of Castilla-La Mancha, Emiliano García Page, who has said that the PSOE is “outside the Constitution”, Calvo considers that in “complicated” moments it is necessary help the initials of the party itself.
“Especially because he has very good electoral results, he is very well valued in his territory and can, obviously, support his party in another episode and in other places”, he pointed out.
In any case, he does not consider that Page should be sanctioned for his statements, although he considers that criticism should be made within the party and reminds him that last weekend he had two bodies in which he was able to speak with freedom He was referring to the Political Convention and the Federal Committee that the PSOE held in A Coruña, which Page did not attend because he was on a trip to China.
In this sense, he maintains that the parties are there to give the public peace of mind because they are an instrument of organization of power recognized by the Constitution, “so I prefer to say it inside than outside”, he pointed out.
